hen Star Wars: Visions appeared among last November’s many upcoming project announcements, we didn’t know much about the anime shorts coming to Disney+ beyond the platform they’d release on. Now with a new trailer and the release date just over a month away, Visions is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated small-screen releases in this fall’s Star Wars lineup.
Visions is not just an anime-inspired rendition of your favorite Star Wars stories like some of the animated shorts released on YouTube over the past few years. These nine shorts were created and produced by various Japanese anime studios, made by artists reimagining Star Wars in a classic anime style. These creators have taken their love for Star Wars and crafted something we’ve never seen before. Based on the trailer released this morning, it’s likely we’ll get more than just these nine retellings in the future.
Today’s trailer is available with subtitles and in English. We highly recommend you watch both (the trailers and the shorts when they release).
The English dub cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Temuera Morrison, Neil Patrick Harris, David Harbour, George Takei, and many more. Visit StarWars.com for full info on the cast and the studios behind the making of each short.
Don’t forget that Emma Mieko Candon’s original novel Ronin, based on “The Duel” from Visions, releases October 12, 2021.
Star Wars: Visions drops exclusively on Disney+ September 22, 2021.
