tar Wars comics and graphic novels haven’t always been Marvel properties. For a while, Dark Horse Comics was known for publishing various Star Wars titles published in this long-beloved storytelling medium.

Since Marvel acquired titles focused on a galaxy far, far away, we’ve gotten years’ worth of content about familiar characters such as Luke Skywalker and new adventurers such as Doctor Aphra.

Publishing overall is no stranger to change, however, and today Marvel announced a decision that, though it likely won’t impact most readers and collectors directly, has left many of us surprised.

According to the official story released this morning, Marvel will soon enter an exclusive, global multi-year distribution deal with Penguin Random House Publisher Services. PRHPS will handle all distributions to the Direct Market for as long as the agreement remains in place.

This distribution deal will go into effect on October 1, 2021, and includes comic books, trade collections, and graphic novels - both newly published and backlisted publications.

As of now, Diamond still handles all distribution for Marvel comics as it has for quite a while. The company’s decision to end its long-standing partnership with Diamond, according to today’s statement, aims to improve the overall experience for everyone involved.

President of Marvel Entertainment Dan Buckley thanked Diamond for its support and clarified the two entities will still work together in a different manner.

“Comics are the core of the Marvel Universe, and we are confident this new partnership will continue to grow and evolve this resilient industry. We look forward to advancing our capabilities with PRHPS to serve our fans and the Direct Market. We thank Diamond for their many years of support and partnership as we continue our relationship with them in other areas.”

Retailers are being asked to direct future orders to PRHPS. But customers should continue to order their comics through their usual preferred outlets.

What big changes could we see in Marvel’s Star Wars comics in the near future? We’ll just have to wait and see. Youtini will always have updates on the latest comic and book news whenever new titles, series, and similar announcements arise.
