ong have we waited for another animated Star Wars TV series to land on our screens. This May, The Bad Batch will leave its mark as the first original animated series to launch on Disney+ under the Star Wars banner.
First introduced in the final season of The Clone Wars, Clone Force 99 - otherwise known as The Bad Batch - were a group of “failed” clone troopers with enhanced abilities that set them apart from their brothers.
As soon as their arc in Season 7 concluded, there was no doubt we hadn’t seen the last of them. Late last year, we learned our assumptions were correct. Another animated series from Dave Filoni himself starring The Bad Batch - titled as such - was on the way.
In the sizzle reel released back in December 2020, we learned the show would take place in the aftermath of the events of Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The members of The Bad Batch will be forced to adjust to a new galaxy in which clones, which once served an essential role in the Galactic Republic, have a much different purpose than before.
This short reel also revealed several familiar characters we’ll be seeing more of when the show drops this spring -- including Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), first introduced in The Mandalorian, and Tarkin, who made several minor appearances in earlier seasons of The Clone Wars.
Not much else has been revealed about the show’s plot or other prominently featured characters. Hopefully, as the show’s release date draws nearer, we’ll learn more about the trials these former soldiers will face in a post-war Empire.
And fingers crossed Filoni & Co. will leave a few surprise reveals for us on release day and beyond.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch drops on Disney+ on May 4, 2021.
