Disney/Lucasfilm Press have released several middle-grade novels leading up to each of the Sequel Trilogy films, and have been wonderful contributions to Star Wars storytelling. They even feature several illustrations by legendary comics artist Phil Noto! Justina Ireland's book fits into the Journey to The Rise of Skywalker publishing program as a prequel to Episode IX. This book feels like exactly what we’ve been waiting for, as it places Rey, Rose, and Poe on a quest for the Resistance including a battle against the First Order, classic Star Wars creatures, and even a superweapon. Although billed as a middle-grade novel, you’ll be disappointed if you skip it, no matter your age!
Publisher's Summary

Spark of the Resistance was a totally fun adventure from beginning to end! From the first page, Justina Ireland puts you right back in the midst of the action we've been missing since the end of Episode VIII. Despite the short length, Ireland succeeds in crafting a succinct, massively entertaining ride that brings us new creatures, new planets, and a new bite size story featuring some of the best characters in the sequel trilogy.

I started reading this book thinking I would get through a few chapters at a time throughout the week. But once I started the first page, I couldn't put it down. I'm not sure I've ever read a book in one sitting before this one. It's not a particularly difficult read, but it's fun and interesting and has the potential to hold your attention straight through from beginning to end. Don't shy away from this story or other Star Wars YA books because it's labeled as YA. Young adult Star Wars books have been some of my favorites in canon so far and it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon. If you have a free afternoon, definitely pick up this book and give it a chance. If nothing else, it will get you excited for The Rise of Skywalker and beyond.
