Our SYNOPSIS

No Spoilers

What many still don't know about the Empire is that it did not instantly crumble with the destruction of the second Death Star. For a long time, those who remained loyal to the Emperor held on, refusing to surrender and accept defeat. In the aftermath of the Battle of Endor, there is still a war to be won. And it's not just up to the high-profile heroes we know and love to get the job done.

Follow an unlikely team of rebel heroes as they struggle against what remains of Palpatine's forces and try to save the galaxy from coming undone again.

Publisher's Summary

Possible Spoilers

As the Empire reels from its critical defeats at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance—now a fledgling New Republic—presses its advantage by hunting down the enemy's scattered forces before they can regroup and retaliate. But above the remote planet Akiva, an ominous show of the enemy's strength is unfolding. Out on a lone reconnaissance mission, pilot Wedge Antilles watches Imperial Star Destroyers gather like birds of prey circling for a kill, but is taken captive before he can report back to the New Republic leaders.

Meanwhile, on the planet's surface, former Rebel fighter Norra Wexley has returned to her native world—war weary, ready to reunite with her estranged son, and eager to build a new life in some distant place. But when Norra intercepts Wedge Antilles's urgent distress call, she realizes her time as a freedom fighter is not yet over. What she doesn't know is just how close the enemy is—or how decisive and dangerous her new mission will be.

Determined to preserve the Empire's power, the surviving Imperial elite are converging on Akiva for a top-secret emergency summit—to consolidate their forces and rally for a counterstrike. But they haven't reckoned on Norra and her newfound allies—her technical genius son, a Zabrak bounty hunter, and a reprobate Imperial defector—who are prepared to do whatever they must to end the Empire's oppressive reign once and for all.

Aftermath introduces a cohort of phenomenal new characters and sets us on our way to discovering how Return of the Jedi links up with The Force Awakens. Chuck Wendig's writing style varies greatly from other writers in the EU, and I found it to be an awesome cadence for this particular story. If you want new characters, high flying stakes, and an inner look at the beginnings of the New Republic and the final days of the Empire, you've gotta pick this one up. Also. Mister Bones. That's all I'll say.

In what is considered by many to be the flagship novel for the post-ROTJ Canon, Aftermath faced overwhelmingly high expectations. While I feel like some of those exceptions were unrealistic, the story did still seem to fall flat at times. Opinions vary on the effectiveness of the writing style, and I found the story to be much more engaging when listening to the audiobook. Overall, the intriguing original characters and snapshot interludes throughout make Aftermath a solid entry into the EU.

This Clone Wars era novel slipped under my radar for quite a while. Maybe because the title sounds like a romance novel... But by the time I finally got around to reading this, I was incredibly surprised! This is a gem of Star Wars Legends and gives us the rare spotlight on Yoda and Count Dooku. After having just read Dooku: Jedi Lost, this really scratched the itch that I had with my newfound interest in the character. This time, he’s trying to set a trap for Yoda under the guise of wanting to end the Clone Wars once and for all. Also, Ventress! On top of all of this, we get great insight and perspective we get on Yoda and a very close, personal story with Dooku as well. Dark Rendezvous great atmosphere and setting on the spooky planet of Vjun!
